Despite the popular opinion of artificial intelligence being centred around deep neural networks and numerical representations, several of its subfields exploit programming languages as an abstraction for solving complex tasks. In this talk, I will give a short introduction to two such research areas, program synthesis and probabilistic programming, introduce some of the challenges and outline potential connections for the programming languages community.
